I was watching a recording of the WTCC race at Sonoma. My sister turns to me and says "I thought you stopped watching NASCAR?". I didn't say anything and just facepalmed. Then my mom said "looks like NASCAR to me, why are you so upset?". I just continued to facepalm and began crying on the inside.

If they've never seen tin top racing that isn't NASCAr before and aren't car people, that's understandable TBH. You should've explained it to them in broad terms so that they know better.

I feel like all non-car-oriented Americans think the only type of car racing is NASCAR.

I feel like a lot of people think that if it has closed fenders it's NASCAR. This makes me sad.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but...
You were adopted.

Except when it's open wheels, then it's Indy.

I was in too much shock to explain it. Hearing that hit hard.

Ah yes, forgot about Indy. /FlamesuitOn
Even so, I don't think anyone I know knows what IndyCar is.

Could be worse. You could be watching WRC or Dakar and get asked why NASCAR is offroading.

I figured as much, oh well. Now, I have to go on an epic quest to find my real parents. They're probably Jalops with a collection of Lancias living somewhere in Europe. That would probably explain why I like Lancias so much, especially since I've only seen two Lancias in person. I must have inherited my love of Lancias from them.

That's true. I feel bad for you, man. Must have been hard hearing that.

new viewers may forget that the previous turn was in a different direction.

Its the typical american view of racing. "if its a car that races, must be NASCAR"
Its like asking for Coke and your server says "is Pepsi ok?" NO I WANT COKE

Aren't Pepsi and Coke the same? /puts on flamesuit

Distinctly not. Pepsi is sweeter, slightly different color mix, and doesn't have as much phosphoric acid in it. Coke has more "bite", and to me comes across less watered-down.

I guess I wouldn't know the difference, since the only soda I drink is Sprite/Sierra Mist/7Up/similar lemon-lime sodas.
![]() 09/09/2013 at 19:54 |

Even among those, you can detect a difference. 7-up has more of an actual quasi fruit flavor, Sprite is sweeter with a bit more citric acid/less fruit, I think, and Sierra Mist less sweet, more citrusey and more mild flavored - leaning more on the carbonation.

I never really thought the differences were that major. Maybe you have better taste buds than I do.

Nice turnout.

Citrus drink differences are less pronounced than colas, usually. Grape drinks, though, they can vary wildly. Dr Pepper and Mr Pibb are very similar as well, but are a bit different: Pibb has a little more of a brewed, bitey flavor, Dr Pepper's smoother.

No, when it's open wheel it's F1. Non-car people think that's who races the Indy 500.

I can pretty much taste the difference with all sodas. Oddly enough I dont mind some RC cola. It is a bit harder to tell if its from restaurants that could use generic soda.
